Alfaz del Pi & Albir

International living between the Serra Gelada and the sea

L'Alfàs del Pi and its seaside district of El Albir combine a quiet, green residential town with a lively beach promenade at the foot of the Serra Gelada Natural Park. Home to residents of more than 90 nationalities, it is one of the most international and liveable places on the Costa Blanca.

General

A town with two faces

L'Alfàs del Pi has around 22,000 inhabitants. The traditional town centre lies slightly inland, while El Albir, on the coast, offers a beach, a promenade and a wide choice of restaurants and shops. Many residents come from Norway and other northern European countries, which gives the town a particularly international character.

Altea is five minutes away and Benidorm about ten. The town has a TRAM station, quick access to the AP-7 motorway, and Alicante airport is around 45 minutes away by car. The climate is one of the mildest in Europe, sheltered by the surrounding mountains.

Beaches

Clear water and the Promenade of the Stars

The beach of El Albir is a long, well-kept pebble beach with exceptionally clear water, often awarded the Blue Flag. Behind it runs the Paseo de las Estrellas, a promenade dedicated to the actors who have visited the town's film festival, lined with cafés and restaurants.

At its northern end lies the Racó de l'Albir, a sheltered corner popular with snorkellers and divers, and the sandy beaches of Benidorm are only ten minutes away.

Nature

Serra Gelada Natural Park

The Serra Gelada is a protected land and marine natural park whose cliffs rise more than 400 metres above the sea between Albir and Benidorm. A popular walk leads from Albir through a tunnel to the Albir lighthouse, with breathtaking views of the bay of Altea.

Inland, the Sierra de Bernia, Puig Campana and the Algar waterfalls are all within easy reach for hiking and day trips.

Gastronomy

A world of flavours

The promenade of Albir and the town centre offer a wide variety of restaurants, from Mediterranean rice dishes and fresh fish to Scandinavian, Italian and Asian cuisine. Cosy terraces and bakeries make every day feel like a holiday.

Local markets sell fresh fruit, vegetables and fish, and the nearby Algar valley is known for its loquats, oranges and honey.

Schools

Schools for every family

L'Alfàs del Pi has several public primary schools and a secondary school, as well as a well-known Norwegian school and Scandinavian education options.

British and other international schools can be found in the town and in neighbouring La Nucía, Altea and Benidorm, all within a short drive.

Sports

An active lifestyle all year

Diving, snorkelling, kayaking and paddle boarding are popular along the coast, and the Serra Gelada offers trails for walking, running and mountain biking. The town has its own sports facilities, and the large sports city of neighbouring La Nucía is just minutes away.

Golfers can choose from several courses within 15–20 minutes, and the marina of Altea is ideal for sailing.

Culture & festivals

Film, art and Roman history

Every summer, L'Alfàs del Pi hosts its long-running international film festival, which gave the Promenade of the Stars its name. The town also has an active cultural centre, the Frax Foundation art space and a busy calendar of concerts and exhibitions.

History lovers can visit the open-air museum of the Roman villa of El Albir, and the traditional fiestas in honour of the Santísimo Cristo del Buen Acierto bring the town centre to life every year.
