Building styles in Moraira

Strict planning rules have kept Moraira low-rise and green. That gives the area a recognisable mix of styles:

• Classic Mediterranean villas – white façades, terracotta roof tiles, arches and covered terraces (the typical naya), often built between 1970 and 1990 on generous hillside plots with a private pool.
• Ibiza style – cubic, whitewashed volumes with flat roofs and rounded edges, popular in areas such as Moravit and Benimeit.
• Contemporary new builds – clean lines, large glass walls, flat roofs and infinity pools with sea views, increasingly found on the hills and around Cap Blanc.
• Village centre and El Portet – traditional fishermen’s houses and low-rise apartment buildings of only a few storeys, close to the harbour and the beaches.
• Countryside towards Teulada – fincas and country houses among the vineyards, sometimes with a historic riurau – the arched porch once used to dry Muscatel grapes.
