Finestrat

A hilltop village at the foot of Puig Campana

Finestrat combines a picturesque old village perched on a rock, the majestic Puig Campana mountain and its own small beach, La Cala, right next to Benidorm. It offers peaceful residential areas with sea and mountain views, excellent shopping and quick access to everything the Costa Blanca has to offer.

General

Mountains, village and sea

Finestrat has around 8,000 inhabitants and stretches from the mountains down to the sea. The historic village sits on a rocky hill below Puig Campana, while the coastal district of La Cala adjoins Benidorm. In between lie green residential areas, golf resorts and one of the largest shopping areas of the region.

Benidorm is just ten minutes away by car, Alicante airport about 40 minutes, and the AP-7 motorway and the TRAM are close by. The climate is mild and sunny all year round, with fresh air from the mountains.

Areas

Where to live in Finestrat

Finestrat offers very different settings within a few kilometres:

  • Old village – traditional houses in narrow streets around the church and the castle viewpoint, with views over the coast.
  • La Cala de Finestrat – apartments by the beach, within walking distance of restaurants, shops and the Benidorm promenade.
  • New Finestrat (new-build area) – a completely different world from the old village: a modern district of new-build apartments and villas with communal pools, gardens and sea views, between Benidorm and the old village – next to the Puig Campana golf course and the La Marina shopping centre.
  • Countryside – villas and fincas with large plots and spectacular views of Puig Campana and the sea.

Beaches

La Cala de Finestrat

Finestrat's beach, La Cala, is a sheltered bay of fine sand and clear water between two rocky headlands, with a promenade, beach bars and restaurants. It has a relaxed, local atmosphere, even in summer.

The long sandy beaches of Benidorm begin just next door, and quieter coves can be found along the coast towards Villajoyosa.

Nature

Puig Campana

At 1,406 metres, Puig Campana is one of the highest mountains in the province of Alicante and the unmistakable landmark of Finestrat. Its famous notch on the summit ridge can be seen from all along the coast. A circular hiking trail goes around the mountain, and experienced walkers can climb to the top.

At the foot of the mountain, the Font del Molí spring and recreational area is a popular spot for a picnic and the start of several walks.

Gastronomy

Mountain cooking and seafood

In the old village you will find traditional restaurants serving hearty mountain dishes such as olleta, arròs amb fesols i naps and grilled meats, while La Cala specialises in fresh fish, seafood and rice dishes by the sea.

Thanks to the large shopping area, everything from supermarkets to international products and speciality shops is close at hand.

Schools

Schools for every family

Finestrat has public primary schools and its own secondary school (IES), as well as sports and music schools.

International families can choose from British and international schools in Benidorm, Alfaz del Pi and La Nucía, all within 15–20 minutes.

Sports

Hiking, climbing and golf

Puig Campana and the surrounding mountains are a paradise for hikers, trail runners, climbers and mountain bikers. On the coast, diving, paddle boarding and sailing are all available.

Golfers can play right on the doorstep at Puig Campana Golf, in the new-build area close to the La Marina shopping centre, and at several other courses nearby. There are also tennis and padel clubs, gyms and a municipal sports centre.

Culture & festivals

A village with character

The old village of Finestrat is one of the most charming on the Costa Blanca: whitewashed and colourful houses cling to the rock, and from the viewpoint by the church and the remains of the castle you can see the whole bay of Benidorm.

The main fiestas, with processions and Moors and Christians, are held in the autumn, and throughout the year the village hosts concerts, markets and cultural events.
